The Finals of the National Barista Competition 2011
Thanks to one of Catex’s longstanding partners, The Speciality Coffee Association of Europe Ireland, the show will be hosting the Finals of the National Barista Championship 2011. Jackie Malone, National Co-ordinator of the Irish Chapter of The Speciality Coffee Association of Europe says they are gearing up for yet another great event at Catex, ‘The search is on once again to find Ireland’s Best Barista 2011 to compete in Colombia at the 2011 World Barista Championships following the huge success of 2009 and 2010 competition where Ireland came 4th in the World two years consecutively with our true Champion Colin Harmon of 3rd Floor Espresso’. An exceptional competition bringing together professionals working in the confectionary arts (pastry chefs, chocolatiers, confectioners, restaurant pastry chefs, ice cream confectioners…) The winning team will represent Ireland in March 2012 at the Mondial des Arts Sucres in Paris Team of 2 contestants. Ireland’s Young Chef of the Year 2011
Bright up and coming young chefs from all over Ireland will compete in the search for Ireland’s Young Chef of the Year in 2011! The Panel of Chefs Competitions continue to be great platforms for recognising the talents of professional and trainee chefs. Catex will host a number of competitions representing all aspects of the food sector including Ireland’s Young Chef of the Year 2011.

The 2011 Catex exhibition has been developed for the industry by the industry. Ireland’s key bodies in the sector are on board to offer invaluable advice and contribute to the show’s features. New to Catex is the welcome support of the Licensed Vintners Association (LVA) and the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) who will be focusing on food for the on-trade. This is an area of growth for Catex and on-trade visitors will learn how a quality, competitively priced food offering can grow their existing business. The backbone of the CEA show is the continuing support and expertise of Catex’s long-standing partners – the Panel of Chefs, Specialty Coffee Association of Europe Ireland, the Bartenders Association of Ireland, the Restaurants Association of Ireland and the Irish Hotel Institute – who are all involved in creating the best ever Catex in 2011.
The Chef Ireland Live Theatre 2011
There will be live cooking demonstrations from leading chefs from all over Ireland. Adrian Cummins, Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland says, “We shall be running Chef Master Classes at Catex, names of chefs involved will be announced over the coming months.”
The New Design & Fit-Out Area
New features already planned for Catex 2011 include a dedicated “Design and Fitout” area which will showcase the very latest in design trends, products and systems. Visitors will get firsthand opportunity to see new and cost-effective ideas and check out the latest developments from some of the leading suppliers in design and fitout who will be exhibiting at Catex 2011. Claire Drummond, Director of Drummond Furniture Ltd explains why she will be exhibiting at the show, ‘We first exhibited in Catex in 2009. The exhibition was so successful for my company that we have decided to invest even more in Catex 2011, by showcasing a bigger stand and a larger range of products’. Other companies committed to the design and fitout area are Derrys, John Drummond Designs and John O’Connell furniture.
